As a teenager, Alban dreamt of one day becoming an architect. One day he was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease and his dream collapsed before his eyes.
Obviously, at first, he said that he’d miss out on a lot of adventures. In hindsight, he realized that others are less fortunate than him. He remains in control of what he wants to achieve, even if it seems impossible. If you think that his sportive life vanished, all that means is that you don’t know Alban at all
He started training as an educator for the visually impaired. He grew up, asserted himself, built a family. Today Alban is the father of two young girls.
Like many of us, Alban loves challenges, beautiful stories and those in them! Philippe Croizon do you know him? Obviously you have to know him! This is the Man who crossed the 5 continents, who has swam crossed the English Channel and completed a Paris Dakar. But it is above all with the heart and his determination that he completed these incredible challenges. Because, Philippe Croizon, lost his arms and his legs.
You will understand better why Alban identifies himself with people like Philippe. He likes to think that everything is possible, that together we can do it and especially that it is never too late. In fact, he will later embark on a project called "impossible", which had never been seen before: to cross the largest salt desert in the world, found in Latin America, the Uyuni desert. With this extraordinary beauty in Bolivia, an exceptional and unique adventure looms in front of him.
In July 2018, Alban goes through with his idea and covers the 140 kilometers of white desert. He drags more than 55 kilos of material (yup, the equivalent of a wild boar, can you imagine it?!). To accompany him in this crazy ride, a medical assistance teams follows his evey move. But he orients himself, alone, and he manages by his own means. The landmarks are his. The directions are his. This adventure is his…
During 7 days, he traveled in self-sufficiency in this white desert landscape, hot and salty, that could easily be described as hostile to humans... One can almost wonder if Michel Berger went to Bolivia and was inspired to write one of his well-known titles: Paradis Blanc (White Paradise).
"Alban has gone running in the white paradise, where the nights are so long that the notion of time ceases to exist, all alone with the wind ..." as the song says. He reveals that it became his SWITCH, that famous moment when something of tectonic proportions shifts within us, and nothing will ever be the same!
At WAA, we are happy Alban the Switcher set his sights on us. A man who will not stop at anything or anyone, even those who question his character and his mental strength. Because that's what we’re talking about when it comes to crossing a salt desert for 140 kilometers in complete autonomy.
Let the images carry you forth, in the hope that they inspire you to turn to one of the many paradises on our blue planet.
In the meantime, good wind, good road and good luck for his next adventure!
